Cherry Pie in a Skillet in 5 Easy Steps

Have any of you ever baked a pie in a cast iron skillet? If not, you ought to try it! I have an entire post coming up soon devoted to cast iron skillet recipes, but I just wanted to share this fun recipe now. 

Last week, we were delighted to have my hubby's grandmother out for a visit. I decided to make some cherry pie...in a skillet. Very easy & delicious!

1. Grease your skillet.

2. Make some good old fashioned pie crust using flour, cold butter (or shortening), and cold water. Roll out the dough and divide in half. Shape & roll one half into a circle large enough to cover the bottom of the skillet. Place in skillet & shape edges.

3. Fill with cherry goodness {or the fruit of your liking}.

4. Roll out the other half of pie dough into a circle to cover the pie filling. Cut into strips and make a simple lattice, or cover it fully and make a few decorative slits if you prefer. Sprinkle some cinnamon & sugar liberally on top of pie.

5. Bake until top crust is golden, and it's ready to be served!

We love our pie with some vanilla bean ice cream. Homemade would be even better. Yummy!

How lovely. I don't own a cast iron skillet so have never cooked with one. I prefer apple pie to cherry, but yours turned out beautifully!

That looks so good and old-fashioned! I have a skillet just the right size for a pie too!

I love how the lattice topped pie looks with the red gingham.

A magazine recipe for a mixed berry pie has me wanting to try that soon! I even have a carton of vanilla ice cream waiting in the freezer.
